  • Where have I been?

Posted on July 15th, 2010 Gwen No comments

Well, no, I’m not deceased! Just very bad about posting… but I have been painting more than ever, and recently completed this one, which is kind of my magnum opus. It’s big- 30″ x 36″.lucy-and-bailey-complete

Soji is a lovely mixed breed dog that I recently painted. I love her brindle coloring.dscf9280

  • A different sort of project

Posted on April 12th, 2010 Gwen 2 comments

I am excited to be working on a different kind of project right now- a group quilt to benefit Italian Greyhound rescue. I have done a lot of raffle quilts in the past, but this will be my first time doing it as a team effort. I am terribly excited about it, both artistically and as a means of raising money for the breed which is dearest to my own heart. As of today, April 12th, we have 26 volunteers signed up. I am hoping that there will be at least forty of us who will be joined in on this project together, all working as one for the little hounds.

Here is a photo of a group quilt I found online which is the loose model for our quilt. Our theme will also be hearts. This is a nice quilt, but my ambition is to make our quilt considerably larger and more elaborate- a real jaw dropper. heart-quilt Fifty blocks from all over the United States and beyond.

  • A couple more…

While I have been busy painting, I haven’t been keeping up with this blog much. But the trend lately has been towards large paintings, and these two are both big-  24″ x 24″.

It’s fun doing paintings this size- makes me feel like a pop artist!

  • Pixelina update

This painting is done I think. I can’t get a decent photo until the weather clears, and goodness knows when that will be. So am just posting it as is.pixelina1

  • What, another one?!

Posted on January 22nd, 2010 Gwen No comments

Yes, it is yet another giant image of my wee Pixel. No, I don’t love her more than my other darlings, it is just that I have this really splendid photo. And there is a local dog boutique where I can hang it when it is done, and a big painting like this (it is 28″ x 22″) draws a lot of attention.

The painting has a long way to go- what you see thus far still needs a lot of work. But check back in a few days for an update.pixelina-in-process

  • That’s all, folks!

I finished this portrait of Simon the Italian Greyhound a few days ago. When I was working on it, the photo kept shouting at me to put a Warner Bros. Cartoon style circle treatment behind him, so that is just what I did. I’m pleased with how it came out. That’s a cat toy dangling from his mouth, by the way. Seems that stuffed mice are Simon’s favorite plaything.

  • Isn’t it a pittie?

Posted on January 20th, 2010 Gwen No comments

Ok, terrible pun, I know, but worshiper of George Harrison that I am, I simply could not resist. This little Pit girl is named Dixie, and her owner hails from Scotland. The thistle background is a nod to his country of origin. Plus, I just love thistles!dscf9027

  • Puggie Wuggles!

Posted on January 16th, 2010 Gwen No comments

I really like painting pugs- those flat faces and big eyes are so decorative. They remind me of the bubble eyed gold fish I have always admired, another Asian creation. This guy was painted for the winner of a raffle to benefit Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue.puggiewuggles

  • Happy New Year!

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 Gwen No comments

Time to set myself down here and post something. Yes, I have been busy painting, but since many of my recent commissions were holiday gifts, I didn’t feel at liberty to post them until after Christmas. So I have some catch-up to do. Here is one I did back in November of a dog named Gwen- imagine that! For this one, I was asked to create a background that had a fifties pop modern mood. Since the client liked certain paintings of mine, I combined a few of the elements he specified.
