IG Rescue quilt so far

Work on the group quilt to benefit Italian Greyhound Rescue continues. People from all across the country ( and four other countries besides) sent me blocks, and I have pieced them together to create the quilt top. I spread it out on my driveway just this morning to get some shots. Next step will be to spread the three layers of the quilt on the floor and bast them all together- then comes putting on the quilting hoop and getting to work with the hand quilting. It will take some time, so better get cracking, Gwen….

Here is a cute little guy I recently finished. I had fun with this one, as I was given lovely sharp photos to work with that allowed me to see every hair. That’s what we pet portrait artists ca-raaave!

I think Cooper must be a doxie mix…

Well, no, I’m not deceased! Just very bad about posting… but I have been painting more than ever, and recently completed this one, which is kind of my magnum opus. It’s big- 30″ x 36″.

A different sort of project

I am excited to be working on a different kind of project right now- a group quilt to benefit Italian Greyhound rescue. I have done a lot of raffle quilts in the past, but this will be my first time doing it as a team effort. I am terribly excited about it, both artistically and as a means of raising money for the breed which is dearest to my own heart. As of today, April 12th, we have 26 volunteers signed up. I am hoping that there will be at least forty of us who will be joined in on this project together, all working as one for the little hounds.

Here is a photo of a group quilt I found online which is the loose model for our quilt. Our theme will also be hearts. This is a nice quilt, but my ambition is to make our quilt considerably larger and more elaborate- a real jaw dropper. Fifty blocks from all over the United States and beyond.

While I have been busy painting, I haven’t been keeping up with this blog much. But the trend lately has been towards large paintings, and these two are both big- 24″ x 24″.

It’s fun doing paintings this size- makes me feel like a pop artist!

Yes, it is yet another giant image of my wee Pixel. No, I don’t love her more than my other darlings, it is just that I have this really splendid photo. And there is a local dog boutique where I can hang it when it is done, and a big painting like this (it is 28″ x 22″) draws a lot of attention.

The painting has a long way to go- what you see thus far still needs a lot of work. But check back in a few days for an update.

I finished this portrait of Simon the Italian Greyhound a few days ago. When I was working on it, the photo kept shouting at me to put a Warner Bros. Cartoon style circle treatment behind him, so that is just what I did. I’m pleased with how it came out. That’s a cat toy dangling from his mouth, by the way. Seems that stuffed mice are Simon’s favorite plaything.

Ok, terrible pun, I know, but worshiper of George Harrison that I am, I simply could not resist. This little Pit girl is named Dixie, and her owner hails from Scotland. The thistle background is a nod to his country of origin. Plus, I just love thistles!
